"Preparing for a successful interview" (page 2/8)
Step 2: Plan your travel
There is simply nothing worse than arriving late for an interview.
Your interviewer may think that you simply don’t care about the job. If you can’t be on time for an interview, will you get to work on time every morning? Or will you be on time to meet an important client?
Of course you WANTED to get there on time, so why didn’t you PLAN your travel?
- What is the most reliable way to get there? By car, bus, train, or plane? If you are going to travel long distance on public transport, then consider booking a seat – you will arrive feeling far more relaxed, and it will give you chance to complete some last minute recap on your research
- How long will it take? Consider doing a dry-run if you are unsure about how long it will take. And remember, it is far, far better to arrive an hour early than to arrive 10 minutes late
- How easy will the location be to find? If you are driving, consider using one of the free route-mapping services on the internet
- What do you do when you arrive? Make sure that you know exactly where you need to go when you arrive at the interview site. Should you go to the reception or somewhere else? Is there more than one reception (which is possible on a site with a number of buildings). And who should you ask for when you arrive?
