"Preparing for a successful interview" (page 1/8)
So, you’ve worked out which dream career you wish to pursue. You’ve painstakingly researched your ideal employer. You’ve written a winning CV and cover letter. And now you’ve been offered an interview!!
Well done!! You certainly have done a lot of work, but now is the time to capitalise on all that hard work and PROVE to your potential employer that YOU are the RIGHT person for their job!!
So relax…. Follow this simple guide, and you will ensure that you will be in the best shape possible to face the interview!!
And remember, as Benjamin Franklin famously said, “Failure to prepare is preparing to fail”.
Step 1: Arrange the date
When you are being offered an interview, you may have a choice of dates.
If you do, then:
- make sure that you have enough time to prepare for your interview – don’t get bounced into a date which will mean that you can’t prepare to be your best on the day
- equally, don’t let your potential employer think that you are not interested. If you can’t make an interview for four weeks, will they think that you are keen for the job or uninterested? Or even worse, perhaps the job will be filled by then?
- Finally, try to make sure that you are seen later in the week. People are generally in a more buoyant mood towards the end of the week and this may reflect well on your performance at interview as well as the interviewer’s impression of you
Clearly, there is a trade-off for the date you pick. Just make sure you have enough time to prepare without appearing uninterested to your potential employer.
