Financing your career change

interview and cover letter advice

Step 5 of a 10 step career change plan

Financing your career change means getting the best credit cards, loans and mortgages you can.

Firstly ensure that your credit card offers absolutely the best rate of interest. Some cards offer very low rates for balance transfers. Others offer low rates (or even zero interest) for a short period, typically six months, which might be enough to get you over the worst. Lastly, some credit cards will offer you perks which could help a lot - airmiles, discounts of shopping bills, cashback etc.

Some credit cards offer unemployment protection, where they will pay the minimum amount for you if you lose your job. Carefully check the wording of any such protection, as it might not apply if you voluntarily leave your job

As with any credit card, especially when you are not earning, make sure that you check the statement carefully. Not only will it give you a good idea of where you are spending your money (and where you could cut back), but even credit card companies can make the odd mistake, and they might have processed a transaction which you didn't make.
